Séance Flex4K v2.1 - Now available
Posted by Robert Monaghan on 12 April 2017 06:59 PM

Hi Everyone,

Today I have also posted Séance Flex4K v2.1 for the Macintosh Flex4K Bundle users.
This is an upgrade to Séance Flex4K v2.0, which now provides ProRes download support for footage that is saved on the Cinemag.

This update is only for Flex4K bundle users. For Séance v2.0 customers, please check out Séance v3.0 here. This package provides ProRes download support, along with full camera control.

Before I provide the link, please read this first:

This package may require a license upgrade fee.

Flex4K owners that purchased a new camera on or after 15 September 2015 will receive this update for free.
If you have purchased your new Flex4K camera before 15 September 2015, you will be required to pay an upgrade fee. ($499 from our webstore here.)

If you are one of these Flex4K Bundle users, you may wish to consider upgrading your Flex4K licenses to Séance v3.0 instead. Not only can you operate other cameras (besides the Flex4K) but you will also be able do full camera control, (not just download) and get ProRes support as well. The upgrade price is $799.00. You can purchase this upgrade here.

You can download a copy of Séance Flex4K v2.1 here.
If you have trouble activating your license, please contact us for assistance.

Séance v3.0 Public Beta 2
Posted by Robert Monaghan on 07 April 2017 03:12 PM

Hi Everyone,

Ok, I have been able to cross another hurdle with this package. As of today, I can report that I am able to provide ProRes download support for the Flex4K. So for those of you that want to shoot ProRes directly into the Cinemag on your Flex4K, but were waiting for Mac support, it is now available.

Séance v3.0 is able to work fully with ProRes saved into the Cinemags, directly.
Along side this, there has been significant strides in the overall Camera control portion of Séance, as well.

This public beta will be posted online very soon. (I believe  within a day or so.)

Here are the system requirements:

- MacOSX 10.11.5 or later
- ATI/AMD or NVidia GPU
- 2010 (or later) MacPro
- 2012 (or later) Thunderbolt based Macbook Pro with ATI/AMD or NVidia GPUs
- 2012 (or later) Thunderbolt based iMac with ATI/AMD or NVidia GPUs.
- For 10Gb operations, a supported 10Gb Fibre or Copper ethernet card, depending upon your needs.

And of course -- Supported Phantom hardware:

- Phantom Flex4K
- Phantom Flex
- Cinestation
- Cinestation IV
and lastly (surprise!)
- Miro 320S -- But with limitations

There is still more work to be done. But you will see a significant amount of work has been done, since the first Public beta. Due to Apple's approval requirements, I was not able to post anything sooner until ProRes passed their approval tests.

The software is being "dog-food-ed" on a regular basis, so I am catching many issues as development moves forward.
Several features are still on the drawing board. And I am still open to new ideas.

Will report more info soon.

Cineon/DPX 2003-2017
Posted by Robert Monaghan on 07 April 2017 02:44 PM

Hi Everyone! Today, I have decided to retire the Cineon/DPX package. It was the product that started my original foray into software development as a business. It allowed me to meet some really amazing people and customers. It also led me down a path that I really didn't think I would travel.

QuickTime itself has been put to rest, by Apple. QuickTime itself is an amazingly old toolkit, in computer terms, too. But, its time has passed. (As one QuickTime Engineer put it - QuickTime was hopelessly 32-bit.. It was never going to make the transition to 64-bit.) It isn't to say that QuickTime isn't missed, but progress demands that we move forward. Apple doesn't appear to be interested in plugin support for plugins, with QuickTime's replacement. But perhaps in the future, Apple will enable Third Party support for plugins with AVFoundation. (I really look forward to that possibility! <nudge nudge>)

For those of you that still use the package, I will maintain the licensing depending upon the software version. Fortunately, CineonDPX v4.x users can expect this to be quite a long while. (It shares my more modern licensing system, with my most recent software packages.) CineonDPX v3.5 and older, this is probably only going to be a year or so. It uses a much older system, that I no longer support.

Soon, I will be retiring my other QuickTime plugins, too.
The only QuickTime component that I expect to continue development on, will be the Phantom Cine Toolkit. But before long, this too will be retired. However, that is unlikely to be soon.

Its been a long ride for some of these products. Its been a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

But now, its time to get back to new ideas and new products!

Thank you to everyone that supported the Cineon/DPX package over the years!
